BOSTON

This page is dedicated to the Boston Marathon.

“The body does not want you to do this. As you run, it tells you to stop but the mind must be strong. You always go too far for your body. You must handle the pain with strategy…It is not age; it is not diet. It is the will to succeed.”
- Jacqueline Gareau, 1980 Boston Marathon champ

Ultimate Guide to the Boston Marathon

Post your Boston or other marathoning experiences and advice below. I will be adding more to this page.

February 11, 2008…so it is less than 70 days until Boston.  I have put in some quality training up to this point…about as well as to be expected.  I have one 20 miler under my belt and several 13-18 milers.  My only concern right now is getting enough 20+ milers in over the next 2 months to be ready to run a sub 6:00 pace.  I think my training indicates I can run around 2:32 at best.  My goal is still 2:35 just as long as I can stay healthy from here on out.
December 6, 2007…my training has been going as well as expected to this point. I have done a few runs of 15 and 16 and will be ready to handle some 18+ over the next 3+ months. I am pleased with my training and I hope to get another 300 mile month in December (it will be hard, traditionally since kids it has been one of my worst months of the year). Racing has been mixed…mostly disapointing but hopefully after a few more months that will come around too.

Right now, I’m thinking sub 2:35 is within reach if my training is maintained. My goal is between 2:33 and 2:38 (PR would be under 2:36:36).

Here’s my sage advise… Keep moving forward… that’s the only way to make it to the finish line. ;)

I heard about a house that’s about 13.1 miles from the start. Apparently each year they put up a sign that says “The Kenyans are crossing the finish line now!”… pretty funny… since most people will indeed pass the sign about when the leaders are finishing. But not you of course, you’re fast enough, that you’ll pass that sign before the leaders finish.

I’ll keep an eye out for that. Hopefully I’ll be at about mile 20 when the Kenyans finish. That’s funny.

My sister pput together a local 5k and at the top of the 1/4 mile long hill she had a water stop manned by the boy scouts. The boy scouts didn’t show but the cooler was there and cups and a sign that read “Thirsy???”.

Watched the end of a NYC triathalon today. Finishing with a 10k just isn’t the same as finishing with a marathon.
